Day 28 - January 28 January 28th
January 28th
To others this was just another day
It meant little to them that when
Asked the date you would say
It's January 28th.
Just a weekend with things to do
Nothing special about today.
Just one day to go through
Just January 28th.
They went about their day because
That is what they had to do.
On the other hand, to us it was
January 28th!
The day for which we'd planned and prayed
Bought and set and prepped and all.
So very many things were made
For January 28th.
The day had by the calendar come
And then it seemed so abruptly
The anticipated day had gone,
This January 28th.
After a wedding, what can one say?
How can one summarize
What went on that day?
On one January 28th.
Can you share what it's like that day?
What one picture can capture
All you want to convey?
From January 28th.
No, pen and paper can not tell
The thoughts in your mind,
What makes your heart swell,
On January 28th.
But with a hug and shining eyes
You attempt to convey the hope, joy,
The prayer that on your heart lies
On that January 28th.

Day 27 - January 27 Tomorrow Is The Day
Tomorrow Is The Day
Tomorrow is the day
So long anticipated
And the next one will be past
That one for which we've waited.
The planning will be through
The bustling be done
At last two lives and families
Will be combined in one.
At the picture's beauty
There may be glistening eyes
As the witnesses approve
Of the joining of these lives.
As they leave the service
There will be on every face
A joyful smile, just thinking
Of God's astounding grace.
The waiting will be over
The two will now be free
To serve the Lord together
Unreservedly.
Yes, tomorrow is the day
That life begins anew,
That fulfills the prayers of many
And the dreams of two.

Day 21 - January 21 Texting and Bowling
txting
some peoples fingers fly
across the tiny keys
not bothering to capitalize
or any grammaring
whenever i am asked
and this has happened twice
to be a texting scribe
i needed advice
"how do you get this to work
this button made before
a letter capital
but it will no more
where is the punctuation
how do you erase
if i ever get this done
how do i send it to its place?"
it is hard indeed
for me to do such texting
leaving out those things
that others find too taxing
its too time consuming
for them to write correctly
but when i do it that way
i do it ineptly
(Just so you know, this poem has nothing to do with Grace, it's just what the idea of texting inspired. I don't know how she texts, so I'm not making fun of her. But don't tell her that.)
I am limiting myself to one picture for each day, but if I did another one, I would do this:
Bad Bowling
When you ask some people if they want to bowl
They will tell you they are terrible.
You aren't sure they're all that bad;
Their bowling skills are not too sad.
They get a strike ocassionally,
And often get about seventy-three.
But when I tell you that I am no good,
Believe me, for you really should.
While others sometimes get a gutter ball,
Mine's not the exception, it's the rule.
I think I got over seventy once;
Almost half of my rolls get points.
Once I dropped it right at the start of the lane.
I tried to pick it up to roll again.
I missed it and it crawled down real slow.
That's how my games usually go.
But my greatest bowling accomplishment
Was the first or second time I went.
I threw the ball a bit too hard.
I should have had a gutter guard.
It did not go down like it should.
It may have been a roll real good.
But I couldn't really see
Four or five lanes down from me.

Day 17 - January 17 Something You've Never Seen
I am willing to bet
What you are about to see
Is something you never have
If you are like me.
Until this very day
You have never seen
A carton of a dozen eggs
All in shades of green.
What you are about to see
Is something you never have
If you are like me.
Until this very day
You have never seen
A carton of a dozen eggs
All in shades of green.

Day 15 - January 15 A Toast
A Toast
I propose a toast
Good health and happiness
May your sister not fall
And your brother not be culpable.
To eating pizza and applesauce
To eating pepper free of cost
Lift coke zero to Les Mis*,
And to Red and Black
Drink down your fizz.
To wearing white
To changing names
To wearing black
To honor Ames.
In the cake of life,
May your salt be few
(But if it is not,
There's a class I'll refer you to).
In a similar toast,
May the Beerbowers be
A spice to your life
But not too closely.
A serious toast:
To a good afternoon.
May you be civilized
And use a spoon.
To laughing without getting choked
And may your toast all reach your throat
May no backwash be in your cup
As we race to drink it up.
If for such a toast
From your family you're disowned,
Come back here, toast, and
"Consider yourself at home."

Sadly, it only took me 9 days to miss a day. Yesterday I took no pictures.

Day 6 - January 6 Dishes
Dishes
Dishes come in many styles
Many shapes, and some with smiles
While you aren't looking, here come piles
Not in proper ranks and files
But scattered on your counter tiles
For what seems like country miles
All prepared, as they compile,
All your time away to wile.

Day 5 - January 5 Chocolate Pudding Cake
Picture of a Pudding Cake
Today I made a pudding cake
A picture of it meant to take
Just one corner was still there
And as I tried to get the color right
And not to make it rather bright
The pan was suddenly quite bare
My sister took the piece away
Leaving me with naught to say
But, "Hey, that was not fair."

Day 4 - January 4 Lentils
Red Lentils
Have you ever wondered
Why it is
That Red Lentils are
Called red?
Kind of like the stuff
That some grow
On top of
Their head.
If you ever saw someone
With truly red hair
You would be surprised.
Even so, Red Letils'
Title lies.
A lovely poem. These lentils aren't even red ones. Oh well.

Day 2 - January 2
Last Thursday I found the first egg from the chicks we got this year. It was a green one! The Auracanas can lay green, and I think there are two of them who do. Here's one more picture so you can see how tiny it is. The middle one is a regular egg from the store, and the big one was laid by one of our older hens.
